Guided Walks

Our monthly guided walks exploring Hampstead Heath are essential for anyone interested in the history, conservation and ecology of the Heath. No need to pre-book, minimum donation of £5 per adult.

The Society also hosts occasional plaque walks in Hampstead village – these must be pre-booked and cost £10.

The money raised helps support the walks programme and the Society’s activities.

Next Guided Walk

Sun 01 Feb, 2026: The Hidden Heath: signs of the Heath's past

The Hidden Heath: signs of the Heath

Hampstead's Heath pictorial historian and archaeologist Michael Hammerson interprets what lies beneath, adding a new dimension to your enjoyment of the Heath. On this walk you will have the opportunity to compare views of the Heath today with archival photographs taken from the same spot. You might be surprised how much the Heath has changed over the decades.

Time: 10:00 am

Meet: Kenwood Walled Garden Entrance, off Hampstead Lane

Led by: Michael Hammerson, a Vice-President of the Highgate Society and member of the Heath Committee.

Future Guided Walks

Sun 01 Mar, 2026: Investigate past and present development projects encroaching on the Heath

Investigate past and present development projects encroaching on the Heath

Discover which projects were built on the edges of the Heath, and which were stopped in their tracks by conservation initiatives. A brand-new walk led by Zander Gross.

Time: 9:30 am

Meet: TBC

Led by: Zander Goss, member of the Heath Sub-Committee

The Heath & Hampstead Society fights to preserve the wild and natural state of the Heath; to maintain the character and amenities of Hampstead; and to promote the study of local history, natural history and conservation.
