In the late l980s developers applied for permission to raze New End Hospital to the ground. Once again a fine Victorian building seemed doomed to destruction by a failure to uphold planning law.
But not this time.
New End Hospital’s classical form still graces the streets of Hampstead.
And why?
Because a long, hard and ultimately successful battle was fought to save it by a working group of our members.
From that group the Town Committee was established as a formal sub-committee of the Society: a dedicated group of volunteers who work to protect the interests of Hampstead Town.
