Since before King Charles I lost his head a detailed species list for Hampstead Heath has been compiled! Thomas Johnston and nine companions undertaking the first recorded list following a botanical ramble in 1629. Since then the Natural History of the Heath with its mosaic of habitats just 4 miles from the centre of London has excited the interest of naturalists and writers alike.
